Professor Xie Libin from China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) delivered a special lecture at our institution.

On October 20th, Professor Xie Libin, Dean of the Sino-German Law School and Vice Dean of the School of Comparative Law at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), delivered an academic lecture entitled Thesis Writing and Time Management for Postgraduate Students at our institution. The lecture was presided over by Professor Qian Jinyu, Executive Deputy Director of the Research Center for Human Rights and the Rule of Law at Guangdong University of Technology. Professor Chen Yunsheng and Associate Professor Xie Yu, faculty members of the Law Department of our institution, and Lecturer Zhao Xiaojing from the School of Law and Intellectual Property at Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, served as panel discussants. More than 80 faculty members and students attended the lecture.

Professor Xie Libin systematically deconstructed the entire process of writing a legal thesis, from topic selection to the final draft. He proceeded step by step and explained profound academic points in simple terms, covering the cultivation of problem awareness, literature retrieval and reading, the construction of a logical framework, the drafting of the first version, and multi-dimensional revision from the perspectives of framework, content and language. In terms of time management, he highlighted a series of strategies, including the Pomodoro Technique, the regulation of physical and mental states, and ways to overcome procrastination. He emphasized that breaking down writing tasks into smaller segments and supporting this with a scientific schedule is not only the key to alleviating writing anxiety and improving efficiency, but also a practical approach to develop academic thinking and fostering a rigorous academic atmosphere.

During the panel discussion session, Professor Chen Yunsheng, Lecturer Zhao Xiaojing and Associate Professor Xie Yu, drawing on their own academic and teaching experience, further elaborated on the significance of mastering scientific writing methods for improving the talent cultivation, strengthening the awareness of academic norms and boosting academic innovation. The session was filled with an enthusiastic atmosphere among the student participants. All attendees stated that the lecture featured practical and highly enlightening content, which offers significant guiding value for academic writing and time planning. It has injected new impetus into fostering a robust academic atmosphere in the Law School and advanced the high-quality cultivation of postgraduate students in our institution.
