On December 23, Professor Xiong Yuegen, director of the Center for Social Policy Research and doctoral Advisor of Peking University, was invited to give a lecture in our Institute. The lecture was presided over by Professor Chen Youwu, Dean of the College. Huang Feifei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, Professor Li Zhiming, Vice president of the College, and representatives of teachers and students attended the lecture.
With the title "How to Understand the Historical Quality and Timeliness of Social Policy", Professor Xiong started from the classic discourse of French sociologist Alain Tuhainer, emphasizing that social policy is a social action to promote the improvement of people's well-being. On this basis, Professor Xiong further explained the "historicity" and "temporality" of social policy, pointing out that the development of China's social policy, its welfare system is a historical system, and it should be a moral practice in line with the civilized world. Social policy researchers need to think about how to understand the intrinsic link between China's own development experience and universalist values in the context of globalization.
